The Star Ferry

Dear Diary,

One neat thing about living in Hong Kong is the great views, and one of the best views of all can be found on the Star Ferry.

The Star Ferry connects Hong Kong Island with Kowloon. Of course, there are several other connections (subway, underground tunnel ... OK, only two other ways), but there's no doubt that the Star Ferry is the most scenic (and cheapest).

For a modest sum, you can travel by boat over Hong Kong's beautiful harbour. Why pay for some expensive tour bus when you can just take the Star Ferry?

Of course, the ferry is much slower than the subway, but sometimes it's nice to just slow down and take in the view.

So, it's in honour of the Star Ferry that I present this poem to you:

Passengers patiently pass the time at the pier;
The time to board is almost here.
Come with me,
Then you’ll see!

Ding, Ding, Ding!
All aboard the ferry!
Quickly, buy a ticket or use your Octopus card;
It’s not very hard!

Find a seat,
They’re all very neat.
Into the harbour, the ferry will sail;
Don’t forget to hold the handrail.

See the city skyline,
Watch the boats go to and fro.
You can do it all on the ferry,
Oh how so merry!

I remain respectfully yours,
Stephen

Great post and poem!! How did you get used to all the ins & outs of living in a different country? I would be interested in hearing about what life was like when you first moved and how you adapted to everything. Once upon a time (5 years ago) I had contemplated moving to Prague and one of the things I wondered about was how I would adapt to such a different place.

Thanks Brandi :-)

I'll have to think about that and write more about it in the future.
